Where we are

Sydney Fringe 2012

Sydney Fringe has carved its home in the Inner West as a project of the Newtown Entertainment Precinct, where there is the highest concentration of independent theatres and live performance spaces in Sydney - and the home of more working artists than any other community in Australia.

The red beating heart of Sydney's vital bohemian culture, The Newtown Precinct is a mash up of ethnicity, sexuality and lifestyles. It's the alternative centrepiece of Sydney's culture, inhabited by punks and professors, artists and students and singers - a magnet for all those wanting to try something new, and a dynamic hub of modern urban life.

The Inner West offers 10 theatres, 15 live music venues, 25 pubs, more than 20 art galleries, more than 200 speciality stores, more than 160 restaurants across 23 international cuisines - and, somehow, more than 24 hours in a day.

Along with the Inner East and CBD, this is Fringe Central and home to Five Eliza, The Fringe Club and other key festival events.

Beyond this precinct, the Sydney Fringe Empire now extends to a number of far-flung city outposts, including Parramatta and Chatswood and has ambitions to conquer yet more of your city. This is Fringe Local and anyone and everyone can be a part of it!
